EASTCONN regional groups and councils bring together educators from across the region who are interested in a similar content area. These meetings are free of charge (unless noted). For more information about a group or council, please contact the facilitator of that meeting.

The Connecticut Council of Administrators of Special Education (ConnCASE) meets monthly at the EASTCONN Conference Center in Hampton. This local chapter supports and champions the needs of exceptional children. Learn more about ConnCASE at www.conncase.org/About

This roundtable provides a forum for regional EL educators to come together around emerging trends and practices. Participants share experiences and EASTCONN staff provide current information on curriculum, assessment, effective instruction and the latest developments from the state.

The Literacy Council provides area teachers with a collaborative forum for networking with colleagues and learning about emerging trends and practices. This year we will focus on problem-solving among our group as well as remaining informed about the changes to the law regarding the Science of Reading and the State of Connecticut policy. Facilitated by EASTCONN staff this council will offer current information on curriculum, assessment, and pedagogy.

EASTCONN’s Math Council provides a forum for area educators, instructional leaders, and administrators to meet regularly to discuss emerging trends and practices in the area of mathematics. Practitioners share best practices from their school/district and EASTCONN staff provides current information on curriculum, assessment and effective instruction. This year we will have Jennifer Michalek, Math Consultant from the Connecticut State Department of Education, as our opening meeting guest speaker, who will share information about the state's new model curriculum. We will also discuss our future meeting topics based on your feedback and interests. In-person preferred, but a Zoom option is available. Come join us and contribute to our rich discussions!

The RESC Alliance sponsors this statewide council to provide the opportunity for all curriculum directors, assistant superintendents, and instructional leaders to receive professional development, collaborate on curriculum and instructional issues related to teaching and learning, as well as share concerns, issues and resources. Participants will have the opportunity to liaise with the CSDE on legislative and policy issues related to schools.

The Regional Library Council provides area Library Media Specialists and Circulation Librarians with an opportunity to share practices, discuss current trends, and align curricular goals. The format is an informal round-table with some mini-lessons. All certified and non-certified regional library staff are welcome.

The RSDC at EASTCONN brings district and school leaders together in a collegial forum to discuss current educational issues in Connecticut. Topics include curriculum, assessment, the state’s educator evaluation model, professional development, legislation and other relevant educational topics. Speakers from the CSDE regularly attend sessions to discuss new developments in education, both statewide and national.

The Regional Transition Networks (RTNs) are the result of a collaborative effort among the CSDE, the State Education Resource Center (SERC), and the Regional Educational Service Centers (RESCs). The Networks are an opportunity for educators new to the field of secondary transition as well as seasoned professionals to network and share topics and issues crucial to the area of secondary transition.

EASTCONN’s Science Council provides a forum for area educators, instructional leaders, and administrators to meet regularly to discuss emerging trends and practices in science education. Practitioners share best practices and EASTCONN staff provide current information on curriculum, assessment and effective instruction. This year will kick off with an update from the state department and their work with the new model curriculum. This is a great place to come for networking, collaboration and building your knowledge base. Your feedback and participation are used to design each council meeting. The Council on Social and Emotional Learning will serve as a community of practice where members can share promising practices, troubleshoot challenges, and collaborate to help elevate and improve our understanding and effective implementation of social and emotional learning in our schools. This council is open to all educators: teachers, administrators and support staff. Meetings are virtual, with the option of being in person in the future.

We are excited to reconvene the EASTCONN Social Studies Council this year with a kick-off from Stephen Armstrong who will share the latest updates from the CSDE, including information on the new social studies standards. We will also discuss our future meeting topics based on your feedback and interests. It will be lively, informative and a great opportunity for networking with practitioners across our region. This council provides technology educators with a forum where they can network with peers in a collegial environment, while learning about the latest trends in technology. Experts in the field and outside consultants regularly attend meetings and provide valuable insights into the latest developments.

University Region Superintendents Association/ Northeast Area Superintendents Association: Northeastern CT's council of school superintendents. This group meets monthly to share information and resources, as they consider proposed legislation, learn about state and federal mandates and identify strategies for managing common and individual school-related challenges.
